Leaking Whirlpool Washer
Hi,
I have a washer model GST9679PW1 leaking when it darins. It sounds like a water pump problem so I put the washer on its side and looked inside. The plastic water pump looks dry; however the round metal thing at the middle of the washer got oil splashed all over. Do you know what caused the oil splashed? What else would be the cause for water leak beside a bad water pump? I took a picture but don't see an option to upload here.
Thanks.

Ouch don't put washer on side or back, There is a plate that can get out of place and hard to get in place, Now that it is already there is there a streak of oil about 6 inches from floor around cabinet? Check water pump on back side for a black streak from seal down, That is where most pumps leak, also on front of pump is there a black ball of plastic on it. If so you need a pump. If not than stand washer up. Take cabinet off, Yours has 2 screws in back of console in plastic end caps 1 on each side, take screws off and console hinges to back, Unplug lid switch and remove 2 gold colored clips, Cabinet will lift off to front. Fill washer to see where leak is. To drain will have to jump.lid switch or put cabinet back on. Let us know if oil goes around cabinet.

most time the oil comes out the top seal and goes up the shaft into clutch; Think I can see the streak of oil I told you about. Will need a clutch and top seal, Would replace drive coupler while there.
