Bosch, Kitchenaid, or Kenmore Dishwasher
Hi, Our 12 year old dishwasher leaves the dishes more dirty than when they were put in. It is time for a new dishwasher. Consumer Report ranks Bosch Evolution 500 SHE55M1 the best. So, we went to Sears to take a look. Sears didn't have the Bosch we were looking for but did have another model. The sales person said Bosch machines are narrower than regular dishwashers. Does anyone know anything about this? Which is better - Bosch, Kitchenaid, or Kenmore Elite? We are looking for the most reliable dishwasher. Can anyone suggest a good dishwasher?

I have a frigidaire.... Never an issue.... Look for warranty when buying. look for noise insulation. Mine is noisy. Not alot of isulation. Also higher end units have quiet motors. But I feel the old noisy ones last longer. The new efficiant ones dont. Why? I dont know but I would think noise reduction and efficiant motors have a part to play.

Our 12 year old dishwasher is a Frigidaire as well. The only problem we had was a replacement of one of the boards until this problem. We did consider buying another Frigidaire but people said they are not as reliable as before. So, we are looking at the CR recommendations.

After installing flooring for a client, I installed their purchased dishwasher...a Bosch. Went back later to do paperwork or something and asked what the little red light was for shining on the floor in front of the dishwasher. It was an led that let you know the dishwasher was running. Absolutely quiet. She was pleased. I liked the way it installed, as well...all connections right up front, easy to get to.

The Bosch for $700 plus, you can keep it. I would not spend that for a DW period.
I am sorry mine is a maytag performa not a Frigidaire. It was $349 new. I use one setting and that is light wash and accu temp. It uses 8 gallons to wash. Regular uses 12 gallons and heavy uses 15 gallons. I am on a septic. Also the accu temp heats the water to 140 degrees. This cleans the dishes good. I use this because my hot water heater is only set to 120 degrees and this is not hot enough to clean the grease...ect. (things to look for)
Plus when you look at DW's look for the racks on what pots, pans and dishes you have. Some just dont work and fit stuff you have. Plus two spray arms upper and lower and a center spray wash tower which mine has.
Good luck

Oh, I agree, Mike. Mine's a Frigidaire, and couldn't be happier. I turn it on when we go to bed in a different part of the house, so although it is semi quiet, we hear nothing, anyway. Wake up to clean dishes. My client was spending a lot of money on new appliances and wanted the best, so they got the Bosch. I even had to take the over the range cabinet and shorten it up, doors and all, so the microwave wouldn't be too low for them to use. Made a world of difference!! May do my 1970's cabinets like that.

One thing I might bring up to the OP, the formulations of dishwasher detergents changed around the first of July 2010. All phosphates were removed from detergents, and if you have hard water, the new detergents don't do a very good job at washing dishes, and they tend to leave a lot of gritty residue. I've read about many complaints regarding the no-phosphate dishwasher detergents, so you might want to investigate that before you sink several hundred dollars into a new dishwasher, only to find it doesn't work any better than your old one.
Most "experts" recommend putting in a water softener, but that's no an option for many people. You may want to try other brands of dishwasher detergents to see if any of them work better.
