Kenmore Washing Machine problem
I have a Kenmore, Heavy Duty, 70 Series, Extra Capacity washing machine.
Model #: 110.92573210
My washer was leaking.
The Centerpost Gasket and the Basket Drive Block were replaced.
I didn't see anything else that looked bad so I cleaned everything up and put the washer back together.
This took care of the leak.
Now when it spins it sounds like it is gonna knock the house down (it is located in the garage).
It fills and agitates fine. It drains completely.
But when it spins it sounds and acts like Off-Balance on Steroids.
I've looked and can't see anything wrong and would really appreciate any info.
Thank You and Have A Nice Day,
Sherri

I'll check # 17 because tub isn't moving by hand.
I thought I reassembled in the same order/directions as the machine came apart. But maybe not because it feels solid when I try moving it.
I did flip machine onto front and discovered the motor and isolation coupling needed replaced, I didn't notice this the first time around and wondered if the extreme spin/bang cycle had caused this part to go bad.
I can't remember if the tub would turn by hand or not the first time I put it back together.
Now that I have changed this coupler part the machine doesn't spin or drain at all.
It fills up just fine, agitates good, then when it is supposed to drain and spin it stops.
Do you think that # 17 that you refered to could also be causing it to not spin now?
Is it possible for me to tighten anything too much?
Thank You for your previous help and any new info. is also appreciated.
Don't worry about the caps I don't get offended by the way people type, unless the words are mean.

Tub will not turn by hand it will move front to back and side to side fairly easy. You will find 4springs, 3 around tub and 1 in back from tub to base, Tub swings freely within spring movemewnt.

Still having washing machine problems
Took washer apart again, # 17 was installed upside down.
Machine does not drain or spin now.
This problem developed after I replaced the motor and isolation coupling but before I reinstalled part #17.
Washer fills and agitates just fine but then when it gets to the drain and spin cycle it just stops.
Any info. is appreciated.
Thank You,
Sherri Belvill

First I want to thank you for all your help, I would have never realized that I had put that part #17 on upside down. It seemed like it was right when I put things together the first time, but the second time when I put things together right it was only obvious that I had it in upside down. Thank You Very Much for pointing that out to me.
O.K. I have checked my lid switch and yes, it was plugged in.
However, I noticed that it seemed kinda loose, so I removed it and found that it was broke off where one of the screws that hold it in place is, I've glued it back together since it just appears to be broken plastic.
Since I have the lid switch off I decided to clean it up and when the lever is pushed down I can hear a click.
Is this click normal?
I've checked all my wire connections, they all seem fine.
When I replaced the motor and isolation coupler I did have the washer laying down on its front, and after that part was replaced that is when the washer first no longer drained or spinned.
Then, after I read what you said about that one part (#17) might be in upside down I took washer apart again. This time with it standing upright (I'm not so sure that laying it down to repair is such a good idea).
Put everything together again, ran it, it filled and agitated just fine, then when it is time to spin and drain it just stops.
No noise, no smells, the cycle selector doesn't even advance any further.
Is there any way to check if this lid switch is good or bad?
Is the lid switch the only thing that would most likely make it where it won't spin and drain?
If I take the drain hose away from the drain in the wall it drains as long as the hose is below the water level so I don't believe anything is clogged up.
Would a bad pump make it not spin and drain?
How would I check that?
I really do appreciate your time and look forward to the day when I no longer ask all of these dumb washing machine questions.
Any info. is always appreciated.
Thank You and Have A Nice Day.

kenmore series 80
This looks like a great resource for help on a kenmore washing machine,
I've no idea how old this machine is but we have had it for at least10 years and it was used. Suddenly the other day it made noises and jerked awkwardly in the agitation mode. Then it would not spin or drain. I opened the lid and pushed in the switch. It started very slowly but it did spin and drain. I thought it was too large a load for our old machine so my wife did a smaller load the next day. Same thing except now it does nothing in the spin mode. It hums slightly but turns itself off for a few minutes. If I wait a few minutes it will hum again and then stop. If i never let it shut itself off it will hum slightly as much as i want as long as i dont hold down the switch too long.
What do you guys think it is?

Have 2 threads to answer pupparent you can check lid switch with ohm meter but you have found your problem, Don't think glue will hold up to long, Switches are fairly cheap. Very common problem to break that way.
Mciver Please start a new thread. Sounds like you have a sock stuck in water pump. unclip pump from motor and try washer in spin cycle. Will give full instructions it you need them. Dose it agitate now?

Finally replaced the lid switch, I never siphoned out all of the water that didn't drain out due to the lid switch not working properly, so when the washer was filling this time it never stopped. After awhile my boyfriend asks me if I had water running in the garage. I go out there and sure enough, water everywhere.
Told boyfriend "I give up" said we needed to buy a new one and went to out sop up water.
Next morning I had to try one more thing before completely calling it quits.
I disconnected the clear hose that connects to the water level selector and blew into it.
Tested the washer again.
Now I am finally almost done with the biggest pile of laundry I have ever had, and I want to tell you Thank You very, very much for all of the help that you have provided.
I may not have been able to complete this job correctly without your help.
Thank You and Have A Nice Day,
Sincerely,
Sherri Belvill
P.S. Although I have learned alot about the washing machine in the last weeks and can now disassemble and reassemble in an evening, believe me when I say that next time the washer WILL be replaced.
