washing machine spins too fast

Hopefully I'm not jumping the gun but my wife just did a small load of laundry [her delicates] and during the spin cycle - it spun like crazy. I could hear it whir from the other side of the house! It sounds as if it keeps picking up speed. I lifted the lid to stop the insane spin. All this was repeated on the rinse cycle.

The washing machine is a 15 yr old Amana commercial quality unit that up until today has worked flawlessly. I assume there is a solenoid, relay or something that has went bad. Any ideas? ..... or do I need to wait until a full load is washed and see how it does?

Is that something I should be able to fix?
It also spins too fast with a full load, it just takes longer for it to pick up too much speed.

Amana model # LWA20AW

I just looked up your washer it looks like it was build by Maytag, Have never seen that problem with your washer. Lean washer against wall and see if it has a medal or plastic pulley on transmission. If plasticit is a easy change if medal you need special tools. not sure if that is your problem.
