Kenmore 80 Series top loader issue

Hello, and thank you for any ideas you may have.

I recently got a used Kenmore 80 series top loading washing machine. It has worked pretty good through several cycles. It has felt slightly unbalanced since I got it - even though it was perfectly level. Just tonight I was doing a load (and I may have had a very heavy item on 1 side...) and all of a sudden I heard a noise (possibly normal noise when switching to rinse) - and then it started banging like crazy.

I have checked all the springs as I found on another thread and they all look good.

The tub is very loose on the inside - it moves back and forth and side to side very easily and does not "bounce" back like I remember.

Is it likely that this is the drive block...worth starting there? I really do not want to pay a repairman - I am pretty handy - just new to washer maintenance

Thanks again

If you could post a model number I'll bring up an exploded view. Can be found by opening lid and looking just underneath at the bottom. there will be a plate there.

If there aren't any broken springs then you likely had the load unbalanced.

The movement is normal, 3 springs around tub 1 balance spring in back tub to frame. Shaking in spin is normal even when empty. Banging in sides with tub is usually A unbalanced load.

Thanks everyone. I will let ya know if that was the issue when I get back home (thanksgiving trip)....I will be real embarrassed if it was just unbalanced.
