Fridgidaire Upright Freezer cooling but not freezing

I've got a Fridgidaire Model FFU16F9CW3 that I've had since 1996 that is cooling to approx 40 degrees but will not get any lower. I've turned the stat down to the lowest setting, turned the unit off overnight and no improvements.

Any suggestions on which part is the culprit to check and replace without having to call for service?

Is it running constantly while trying to cool down? Have the evaporator coils frozen up? If yes, then it could be low on refrigerant, which would mean that there's a leak somewhere.

Condensor coils usually under the back of the unit get clogged with kitchen grease and dust which will cause unit to run excessively. There is usually a fan in there also to move cool air thru the coils.

This freezer doesn't have condensor coils and fan underneath. They are in the exteriors walls of the unit.

My apologies.....this is a freezer only. Right....they don't require a fan forced condenser.

T-W-X posted the above statement. The answer to both of the questions is important.
