Washer won't spin - makes noise and lights flicker
GE profile model#WPSE4270A0WW. Aprox 12 years old. Load went fine until spin cycle, made horrible noise, like motor was trying to turn but hung up. Lights in room flickered then I turned off washer. Haven't looked inside yet, worried it is the motor and should prob replace anyway due to age. I will pull front cover off, just need advise as to what to look for first.
Thanks

You have a motor that has a drive belt. You could have a motor, clutch, drive belt or transmission problem.
If the machine was performing fine until it hit the spin cycle then it looks like it's going to be a transmission issue.

If I determine it is the transmission is that an easy replacement? What would the part cost approximately? Question is, is it not worth fixing since the machine is 12 years old?
Pugsl - more of a whining noise. Not sure top or bottom, will pull front cover tonite and investigate further.

Below is a link to the parts service. You are looking at part # 320.
Is it worth fixing.......I would probably do it. One determining factor would be the condition of the tub. Rust in particularly.
If you click on the part number.....it will open to a page with the transmission. Look at bottom of page for installation instructions.
