Kenmore 80 series washer - loud sounds, no spin

I've got a Kenmore 80 series washer (110.92282800). It seems to agitate and drain just fine. However, whenever a spin cycle starts I hear a loud banging sound and the drum barely moves or it doesn't move at all. When I was troubleshooting the issue I had the lid open and was pressing the lid interlock switch and tried to turn the drum by hand. It moves OK but stops or slows to a crawl as soon as I stop tuning it by hand. When I release the lid switch I hear something engage and then the drum turns a few inches.

I replaced a broken coupler on it today but am still having the problem. Maybe need to replace the gearbox?

Sounds like the gearcase is bad. Look about 6 inches up from floor inside cabinet sides to see if there is a streak of oil. if there gearcase is leaking and you will also need a clutch.
