GE Washer stopped draining. Large dry chunks of detergent in the basket.
My GE washer ( WSSE4220AWW)stopped draining today. The last time the washer drained, it left behind some large chunks of what appears to be dried up detergent several inches in size. These were left behind with the clothes in the basket. What would have caused that and could it be clogged?
I removed the front and when I turn it back on there is a humming sound coming from the motor in the front right. If I move the fan on it, and turn it back on, the fan moves back to the original position and seizes? What would my next step be?

Most likely you have something stuck in water pump. Will have to take hoses off and see if something in it. If not than you will have to replace pump. Will have up to 20 gallons of water in tub it did not drain. Iuse a wet dry vac. to get water out.

Like pug says.....you'll have to make sure tub is empty or pump it out. Even after you remove all the water you can see....there is more in the lower part of the drum and water pump lines. You'll need towels down. Remove hose going from bottom of tub to water pump. You'll probably find some chunks of soap in there too jamming the pump.

The water pump was blocked by the hard caked powder detergent that I mentioned earlier.
New problem: When I disconnected the hoses, a good amount of water poured out right on top of the water pump motor. I have it setting in front of a fan to dry it out. How long should I wait before hooking it back up? I would like to put everything back together tomorrow. That would be about 10-12 hours of drying. Would that be safe or should I wait longer before hooking it back up to the electric, etc.

The pump is work again, Thanks. However, now the basin won't spin. With the front removed, I can see that the belt is spinning and causing the aggetator to spin but it looks like the basin is "loose" so it is not spinning. I stopped everything and from the inside of the basin I can manually spin it. i can also lift it a little bit. Shouldn't it be held in place? How would I go about "locking" it back in place, so to speak?

Water will pump out and keep pumping until the timer tells it to spin. The belt may be still wet or the transmission is bad. Are you saying the basket in the tub is loose? or that the tub moves around.

Thanks for your help. The hub seems to be the problem. I posted pics in my other thread: http://www.doityourself.com/forum/el...se4220aww.html
