Kenmore 550 Washer fills but wont start
Kenmore 500
Model # 11028532701
Fills with water but then nothing. Tried turning knob in several positions and nothing happens. Unplugged-replugged-nothing. Checked Circuit breaker, everything is on. Tried a differnet outlet, nothing. The outlet is working because I plugged something else in and it worked. Would appreciate any advice. Thanks

When the tub is filling with water.....the timer and motor are off.
When the tub is at proper level the fill switch shuts off water valve and supplies power to the timer and drive motor.
The fill switch is at the back of the water level control. You'll find three wires on it.
One will be hot in. One will supply power to fill valves only while filling.
and the last one should become live when the tub is at correct level. This voltage is most liklely the one you're missing.

Might also want to check the lid switch. It's not an uncommon problem, and easy to check; it's either on or off.

Lid switch is under left hinge, Tighten the screws to hinge. A common problem with your washer. Your washer will not do anything except fill if lid switch not working.

I located LID switch, is it an easy fix for a novice? I think I will try to replace this first (if a novice can do this) as it is only a $20 part and I cannot find the fill switch on the washer diagram.

Part # 9 is the lid switch. Click on "view full size" under the smaller illustration and the pic will open in a new window. Click on the new pic and it will be full screen. You can drag the pic around to get a better view.
The switch should only have two wires on it. You can short them together to test machine without using the lid switch.

Did you tighten the hinge screws yet?? That switch does not go bad that often, Since it came out several years ago have only replaced one. Screws are located in top outside edge.

# 10 are the ones that get loose. If still does not work jump the 2 wires to lid switch not colored green and see if washer runs. If still not working let us know.
