ice machine will not make ice

Frigidaire Professional, model PLHS39EESSN.

the water dispenser works fine,

when pushing the paddle to get ice, you can here the machine trying to dispense, but nothing comes out because it is empty.

i am pretty handy and know how to use a volt meter, just need some direction.

I'm assuming that the bin full bail is not locked up for ice machine shut off.

One typical problem is the water fill valve.
Another is a frozen motor inside the ice maker unit.

I actually rebuild ice makers but it's difficult to walk someone thru diagnostics inside the ice maker itself. Normally it's replaced as a complete unit.

Check and see if there is any frozen water in the tray.
If it's empty....pull fridge away from wall. Look for where the water hooks up. You'll see a dual water valve. One side is drinking water......the other is ice machine supply. Have someone activate the drinking water so that you know which valve is which. Disconnect the wires and check the fill valve for the ice maker with an ohmmeter. It should show a low resistance.

Let me know what you find.

Intermittent problems can be a real joy to locate. The last ice maker that I worked on had a timer motor that kept freezing up.

I can't remember off the top of my head if your unit has an internal water filter. If it does and it hasn't been changed recently......it may be time.
