Exclamation Older model Amana Side-by-side refrigerator running constantly

amana side-by-side model sx23vw is running constantly.

I can turn the freezer control all the way off and it will quit running. When I reset it to the desired temperature, it does not turn back on.

When it does eventually come back on, i can hear the compressor & fan kickin and it will then run continously.

Is it the temperature control unit? or something else ?

Welcome to the forums.

Does everything freeze up.... especially in the fridge ?

It sounds like a defective thermostat. That's a mechanical unit and not too hard to replace.
The part number for the thermostat is R0161092.

The link below is one online parts location or you can shop using that part number or check with your local appliance parts retailer.

I did notice the milk on the door freezing but turned the vent in the side down so that it was getting less cold air. I have ordered the Temperature Control Thermostat but was concerned because the description in the Repair/Clinic site stated that if I could turn the dial and hear it click off/on then it probably was not the Temperature Control Unit.

thanks for your quick reply...

If you hear it click when you turn it off and the compressor stops at the same time..... then it is the thermostat that is bad.

Another problem that occurs is that you turn the thermostat off and the compressor still runs. That's not what you have happening.
