Clothes dripping wet after spin cycle in GE wsm2480tazww washer

I've got a GE model wsm2480tazww washer/dryer stackable combo unit that seems to have trouble with the spin cycle. After the full wash cycle completes the clothes are still dripping wet. I've removed all the clothes and run just the final spin cycle with the top still open (using my finger to depress the sensor) and noticed that the spin cycle seems to be running very slowly...not nearly enough speed to wring the clothes near dry in prep for the dryer. The water seems to drain out but I'm just not getting enough speed to get all the water out. I'm guessing it's related to either a sensor that doesn't let the motor spin in high speed mode or something with the motor drive train that keeps it from going fast. Any suggestions?

Also, does anyone have reccomendations on where I could get a diagram for this model?

you have a GE made by whirlpool, Never seen that combo. Most likely you have a top seal in gearcase leaking oil and will need seal, clutch and drive coupler. To check will have to take front off washer. I will be guessing here Take lower dryer panel off. Panel between washer and dryer, Reach in back and see if there are 2 clips holding top of washer on, Clips will be close to edge held on be 5/16 screws, Slide top forward and off watch for lid switch wires. front should be held on by 2 screws from inside. Here is a break down of washer

Thanks pugsl for the quick reply and details. What will I be looking for if your remote diagnosis is correct (gearcase leaking oil)? Will I see visible signs of oil coming from one of the parts attached to the drive motor? Also, can you give any guidance on whether or not this is something to be attempted by a DIY'er? I'm quite handy but don't want to spend a full day or two trying to get it working with replacement parts. Lastly, what do you think the cost would be to have it fixed (again, assuming your diagnosis to be correct)?

Any other ideas from the peanut gallery on what the problem may be?
