Kenmore Elite Dispenser not working

Kenmore Elite Side by Side Refrigerator
Model #253.4439340

When the ice dispenser pedal is pressed, it dispenses water from the water dispenser. The water dispenser works fine. Any ideas?

Welcome to the forums.

Do you have a slide switch to select ice or water ?
It sounds like the dispenser switch is stuck in water dispense mode.

No slide switch. Two pedals - 1 for ice (left) and 1 for water (right)

Check your model number..... it's missing an A or a number on the end.

Inside the unit are two microswitches that the pedals hit. The switches may be out of alignment. In the picture I've highlighted the ice pedal and switch in green and the water pedal and switch in red. You may have to pull the unit apart to see what needs to be done or replaced.

The following link is a video that shows the accessing of the switches.

Thank you very much for the assistance. I'll give this a try later in the week when I get over this cold and report back.

The model number is what is on the manual, so I'm not sure what digit is missing, but I did notice that. How do I locate the missing digit? The fridge came with the house, so I'm not sure how old it is.

Thanks again for the help.

Model #253.44393404

I watched the video that was posted but removing the drip tray did not expose screws as the video showed.

Thank you for the model number. I left you a PNG image link below. Once the pic opens you click on it and it will expand to a large view. Use the arrow keys to navigate the page. This is directly from Sears Parts online. It shows the same screws that are in the video. You are going to have to hunt around there.... the screws must be covered by some trim panel.

I did find the 3 screws at the bottom, however I was worried about pulling the trim panel too far to access them. I thought the trim panel would be separate from the assembly that the screws hold in. The parts detail is misleading as it looks like you can access the screws from the outside of the trim panel. I will give it another try tonight. Thanks!
