Frigidaire Refrigerator making snapping/clapping noise.

I have a Frigidaire Refrigerator, 26 inch side-by-side, about 1 year old. for some reason, it makes clapping/snapping noise every 10 to 11 weeks, and it last only about 2 days, then it won't make that clapping/snapping noise again for another 10 or 11 weeks. I just wonder if this is the way works, or there is a problem with the unit. Thanks.

Does it do the clicking when the compressor is starting up or shutting down ?
Where does the sound come from ? Try to find out exactly.

On starting up.... it could be the compressor starter/overload switch.
On shutdown..... it could be a problem with gas pressures equalizing.

There are millions of fridges out there making popping/snapping noises.

Thanks for the quick reply. It is not the compressor which is at the bottom and the compressor is on/off all the time. this sound seems came from the middle section and only on every 10/11 weeks. and only last 2 or 3 days. I did some reading, more like the defrosting timer comes on once a while. but I thought that timer is not a moving part, should not make any noise at all.
That sound is pretty loud, if this is the way works, don't buy Frigidaire.

That sounds like it's the defrost control board. There would be a relay on it but I'm surprised that the relay would be making an objectionable sound.

Can you post the model number of the unit.

Model # : FFHS2622MS. I can't think of anything else in there be activated every 10 or 11 weeks. I got the frigerator last year. first time was 1 week after I got the unit, then about 11 weeks later, it did the second time, 10 weeks later, it did the third time. if this is the way works, next time should be early July. When it starts, it does not make noise continuesly, it stops and starts (just like compressor, run for 20 or 30 muinutes only), 2 days later, it will be all gone. (I found in the user's guide, says Automatic defrosting control can make snapping sound when turning the cooling system on or off, did not say the snapping sound will last 20 or 30 minutes).

More reading make me think it may not be the defrosting timer. Found out that the defrost cycle is every 8 to 10 hours, but this thing makes noise every 10 weeks...

Your unit doesn't have a timer.... it has an electronic control board.

It uses adaptive defrost technology. It monitors the evaporator coil, when the door was last opened, compressor run time, etc. so it can defrost anywhere from twice a day to every four days.

Still doesn't explain what you are hearing and I haven't found any other complaints that match yours.

OK, control board. I hate this type of new device, because you can not figure out how it works. Anyway, few hours or few days, still not 10 weeks. I called the customer support, lady answered the phone provided no help. She knows less than me, all she can do is send someone to look at it. I told her there is nothing wrong at this moment. I asked her what kind of device in there that is activated every 10 to 11 weeks, and only run for a couple of days. she does not know. I guess I'll wait until early July and see if this noise starts again and go from there.
We can close this thread now, If I find anything after July, I'll post here again. Thank you for all your help. ------- one thing just come to my mind, I have a small refrigerator I have to manually defrost the unit EVERY 2 to 3 months, (about 10-12 weeks) there is no need to do it every few hours or days.
