Maytag washer drum loose

LAT9804AAL from Maytag
The tub/basket is loose and easily moved by hand in all directions, though It tends to be upright at rest, not leaning in any direction. A small load will result in severe rocking during spin cycle. busted spring(s)?

Welcome to the forums.

I think that model may just have one centering spring. Try tipping it against the wall and looking under it.

You need to take front off to see anything, usually 2 springs clips between top and front pushed back with a putty knife while lifting up top and than 2 screws holding front on.

Patr 6 is spring and 7 is dampner (3 springs) and dampner usually have to be replaced to fix but very uncommon problem with your washer. If it was 10 years newer it is a very common problem. Not a easy job and may not fix it. Does the whole basket and tub assy move and bang against sides?

i would have to think so given the amount of play in it when moved by hand. what else /could/ it be if not the spring/assly?

Your tub is held down by 3 springs and rests on the dampner. There is a lot of movement of tub in washer when moved by hand. Not sure what is causing your problem as I said not a common problem with your washer.

springs are good all around. i thought on the last load to wash, when the spin cycle cutoff to start slowing, at that second there was a loud noise or bang, not a hollow sound but solid ??

Possible transmission noise but without hearing it I not sure. If washer works and doesn't walk around I would keep using it till it gets worse. hard to tell anything yet.
