Help...is it the gearcase? Kenmore 80 series washer

Kenmore series 80 washer. Washes, agitates drains. Wont spin. Using the forums, I've checked the coupler--its good. tried spin without the pump on the motor. didn't spin. pulled transmission motor assembly. on Spin, the clutch turns but not the drive shaft--do I need the neutral drain kit 388253?
thanks

If clutch hub is spinning, transmission is fine. Problem could be worn out clutch band (slipping), broken brake cam driver, sticking brakes, worn drive block. With cabinet removed and lid switch bypassed, in spin mode with clutch hub spinning, look up into brake hub. Is the basket drive spinning or not? If not, check the brake cam driver. If it is spinning, then it's likely a worn out drive block. With transmission pulled, the drive shaft you see is the agitator shaft. It is not used to drive the basket during spin. The basket drive is used for that. It remains up inside the centerpost when transmission is pulled.

Welcome to the forums.

When you had the unit running.... had you tried lifting the lid or manually advancing the timer ?

After agitating/washing ends.... the motor reverses and the tub starts to drain. After a 2 minute period.... the timer will shut off the motor for a second or so and then when it powers back up the transmission should shift into spin. That pause after the tub drains MUST be present.

look inside cabinet about 6 inches up. Is there a streak of oil there?
spin without the pump on the motor. didn't spin.
Did the motor make any noise when it didn't spin?
