GE Refrid Model DFE29JGDCBB

Hi,

We have the above refrig for 6 months now. There is an ice maker Basket FZ IM ASM in the bottom freezer compartment. The is a small cover that goes on it (Cover FZ IM). Every time we take the Basket out to dump the ice in a cooler, the cover falls off and goes underneath the large freezer door.

1) How can I prevent this from happening other than duct taping the cover on.
2) When taking the Basket out, there is almost no clearance to get it out. I have to **** it 90-degrees and somehow I get it out. It seems like I'm missing something here.
3) Any ideas on how to get the cover that is underneath the large freezer door?

Thank you

Bill

Looks like another well thought out idea. I don't have anything to add about the cover as I haven't seen one in person. It shows out of stock and not available at many places. Is this an older fridge and you just got it ?

Yes .... I saw the part in the exploded parts list. That's why I mentioned the well thought out idea.

I've no idea why the part is in short supply.... strange for a new appliance.

maybe available

I was just now able to put the cover (part 537) in my Sears cart online - says available for phone and online order only- I'm not buying, just curious, so took it back out of cart.

It is available but in short supply. That usually tells me a run of units is coming to the end and the appliance has been around for a while.

Either the supply is very short or the part is in high demand.

The are probably out of those parts because they fall off and get lost under the large drawer.

I think I found out the problem. Poor design. Here is why. I learned how to remove the large freezer food bid, exposing the bottom of the frig and my lost cover. I put the cover back onto the basket and put some ice in it. When tipping the basket upward in order to angle it onto the sliding rails, the ice moved back towards the cover putting upward pressure on the cover. When it does this, it pops the 2 plastic clips holding the cover in place on the basket..............Duh!!!. I'm rigging up a fix to keep the clips from popping.
