Kenmore electric dryer

When I connect the power and the belt and press the power button I get this.

however when I remove the belt it spins like this.

Do I need to replace the electric motor?

Welcome to the forums.

Yes.... it sounds like you need a new motor.

Thank you, and such a prompt reply. Could you explain like i'm five why it is doing this? Just curious for my own experience.

The bearings are worn in the motor. The motor is trying to start and if it doesn't it shuts down on overheat/safety.

If you post the make and model I could offer further help.

Looks like you got the blower wheel off ok.... that can be an issue sometimes.

279787 is also a replacement motor for that Whirlpool built dryer.
There is a China built version of the motor.... I'd stay away from that one. I believe the current Whirlpool ones come from Mexico.

Using the motor part number you can search for deals. I bought several off of amazon recently with no problems.

I am looking on ebay for a replacement part number 3395654. The original was made in mexico, and there are a lot of made in china ones on ebay. What do I need to look for. Is this an oem part or aftermarket?

You're looking for one made in Mexico. It should say "made in Mexico" on the label on the motor. I can't read the origin on the link you left.

I made my recommendation in post 8.
