Nothing is simple with an ice maker.

I usually start at the fill valve which is on the lower back of the fridge. An easy way to check it is since it's a double valve, door water and ice maker, is to reverse the wiring on the two valve solenoids. Now when you call for drinking water... the ice maker should get water.

You can also check both solenoids for continuity with an ohmmeter.

Plugged up filter.
Bad solenoid on the inlet valve.
Tried repairclinic.com? If you have the model number it comes up with trouble shooting, part #'s and even video on how to replace in some cases.

Thanks again, I do get door water and if i fill the ice tray manually, it makes ice.
i will have to pull unit and check the wiring and continuity on the solenoids.
