Dryer door not depressing safety button
Hi, this is my first post here, and this place seems to have a wealth of knowledge.
I recently found out that I could change the side that my dryer door opens toward. It's an Amana dryer with a rectangular door. Now that I've flipped it, the door will latch shut, but it's as if the door is bent, and now it won't push in the safety button that allows the dryer to turn on. I can push it in with my hand, but that's not really feasible. Would you think the door is bent, or did I maybe miss something when I rotated the door? Right now the door just barely latches. Let me know if there's any other info you might need. Thanks!
Edit: Just tried putting a crumpled up kleenex in the door where it's supposed to connect to the latch, and that was enough to have it press in. So it doesn't have far to travel. I'd just rather not have to do that every time. Thanks again!

Been long time since I have worked on that model dryer, Does the hinge screw into side of door? If so is the door sticking out on hinge side? Possible that you put door on wrong side of hinge . on hinge side door should sit flush with dryer. If sticking out take door off hinge, leave hinge on dryer than put door on other side of hinge, Fairbank may have better idea, I cannot picture your hinge in my mind.

My Whirlpool uses a similar setup to yours. Originally the switch is on the hinge side so that when you reverse the door the switch needs to be held in by the plastic catch.
The catch doesn't seem to be holding the door in tightly. Does it feel like the door is held closed all the way ?
The door could also be sprung. That happens when you lean on it when removing items from inside.

Here's a few pictures that show what it looks like. The hinge does screw into the side of the door. The door isn't sticking out on the hinge side, but it is sticking out on the side that opens. You can see that in the picture with the rust spot on it.
PJmax, no, the door does not seem to be held closed all the way by the catch. I can't slam it shut, I have to press on the door to get it to latch. It does seem like the door could be sprung. I bought it used, and since I didn't know I could switch which way it opened, I never bothered to check that out before I bought it. What would cause it to work when having the hinges on one side, but not on the other? Thanks for the responses so far!

When you close the door..... does it latch and then pop back open or just doesn't latch ?
It looks like the bottom of the door is in and the top is out. That could be a hinge issue. Try swapping the top and bottom hinges and see if that makes a difference.

Looks like the door is sprung. Put a screwdriver handle in lower door opening near hinge. close door on handle and bend door in slightly Do not put a lot of pressure on door.
