Speed Queen dryer door latch issue

The door on my Speed Queen dryer became slightly loose, so someone in my house decided that since it didn't close properly, slamming it repeatedly would be the most effective means to fix the problem (i.e., if it can't be fixed with a hammer, it can't be fixed). This is the result:

Now since there aren't any screws or panels to speak of, do I need to remove the whole front of the dryer to replace this? I've pulled on it a little bit, but something is anchoring it inside and I'm sure that if I just yank it out, it'll break worse than it already has.

That looks like a partial model number.... actually a group number. Your model number may be ADE3LRGS171TW01 and if that is correct...... this is a gas dryer so I moved your thread to the gas appliance forum.

I posted a replacement video but they seem to make it harder than it is. Usually I break the old one out and snap the new one in.
Whirlpool LA-1003 Door Catch Kit - AppliancePartsPros.com

In the following link.... the pictorial number is part 10. The OEM part number is 51077
ACCESS PANEL/FRONT PANEL/SEAL Diagram & Parts List for Model ADE3LRGS171TW01 Speed-queen-Parts Dryer-Parts | SearsPartsDirect

The part number also appears to be a Whirlpool # 306436. A different video in this link.

It's an electric dryer and that's the only model number I could find which was on the receipt. I went to the Speed Queen website trying to find where it is on the unit, but it's not on the inside of the door like the company says. Where else could it be?

But it does look like I could probably just push it in and let it drop and put another one in its place.

I move you back to the electric appliance forum.

In the links I left you..... you should be able to match the catch visually.

Model # usually in door area. Can't tell from picture but latch looks like a whirlpool type. Any appliance parts store should have one, If you get one with speed queen name usually twice the cost of one from whirlpool. looks like same part. Get new one and you will see the tabs that hold it in. 3 ways to do this easiest is to break off front plastic and let old one fall in door, push in new one. next is to hold part with pliers and put screwdriver in and bend tabs down and pull out not easy. third way is to take front off. Pj link is a good one but a lot of work for a 5 minute job.
