Bottom Mount Refrigerator Problem

I have an older Whirlpool refrigerator that has stopped working. The top mount freezer seems to be fine. The coils on the bottom were pretty grungy so I've cleaned them. The vents on the top of the fridge that connect to the freezer are frozen solid. I've unplugged it to thaw the ice. Any suggestions for what to do next?

Thanks for any help!

It sounds like the self-defrost is no longer working. When that happens frost/ice keeps building up on the evaporator coil until all air flow is blocked. Since the coil is in the freezer.... the freezer stays cold. The fridge relies on circulating cold air.

Post the model number for your fridge so I can give you further information.
