Whirlpool side by side ,fridge not cooling

Hi Pete,
Appreciate some assistance.whirlpool side by side.
Fridge is seven years old.
I have removed ice from the duct and diffuser from the freezer into the fridge. Also the lower vent in the fridge, pouring hot water into and water catching in tray under fridge. The fridge diffuser is making a rattling sound.Photos show that inside the diffuser there is no ice,BUT it looks like the gate(baffle) is closed. The temp.control in fridge is a sliding switch,I believe it is electronically controlled.
There is no cold air coming from the freezer through the diffuser as the gate is closed.Cold air is coming up from the rear of the freezer,so I believe the evaporator fan is ok.Could the diffuser part that controls the gate be faulty.
I read that when it faults,it does in the closed position.
Thank you for your time and any advice would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forums.

You mention photos but I don't see any.

I read that when it faults,it does in the closed position.
It can fault in any position. Open, closed or vibrating somewhere in between.

That diffuser is motor driven so if you hear it clicking or grinding then the motor unit is most likely worn out. The part is fairly easy to replace. The part number is W10129864.
