GE Profile washer leaking after fill

We have an 11 year old GE Profile FabricClean top loading washer with agitator. Without provocation or incident, it has begun leaking out the bottom after the fill. It fills all the way and holds water, but when it begins agitation, it sounds like it's struggling a bit for the agitator to move, and then water gushes out the bottom. It's not all the water from the drum and after some leaks out, the washer completes a cycle, though the agitator still hardly moves. I'd appreciate any insight. This is not our forte at all and we are hesitant to call anyone and incur a lot of cost, given the age of the machine. If this sounds like a common and fixable problem, we can try to DIY or call someone but if it's evident that it's terminal, we'd rather not spend the money on a repair person to tell us that.

Thank you in advance!

Welcome to the forums.

Can you post the model number for us ? It can usually be found at the bottom, under the lid.

Thank you! After all this we discovered it was even more broken so we just replaced it. But I appreciate that you would have been willing to help us try to fix it!
