Son dishwasher heater element plug burnt off, Does the heater element just pull out or are there clips that hold it in. Other than loose connection any reason plug would melt. Also found out somebody had stuck a plastic cup under fill line but no water in it? May have leaked a some point but dry now.

A loose connection would definitely damage the connection.
There are nuts on the bottom of the element.
