Whirlpool fridge ice dispenser not working

Sorry, I didn't know how to phrase this... the ice maker produces ice and dumps it in the ice holder, but ice won't come out of the front. The iceholder has a thing running through the center that turns and looks like it's supposed to move the ice to the front. I can remove the ice holder, trick the fridge into thinking the door is closed, press for ice and I see the motor in the back spinning... it just doesn't make contact with the big ice holder. I ensure the holder is going all the way in and it is... it seems as though this needs to come forward a little bit? I've even tried it with the ice holder empty.

Thank you all for your help...

After a little more research, I think a more proper way to explain this is that the auger is spinning, but doesn't make contact with the mechanism in the ice bucket. It just spins freely.

From the photo you posted....I think you may be talking about the dispenser...and not the maker itself. Might want to re-phrase it to get more help.

Thank you, good call... I don't think I can edit it though. Maybe an admin will see it and help me out.

The ice drops into a bin. The metal thing in the middle is called the ice bucket auger.
The auger is driven from a gear drive that is attached to a motor. The auger connects to the gear drive with a matching splice.

You need to determine if that gear drive and motor are working. Usually pretty easy to hear.
If the motor and drive is making noise.... the auger is not connecting to the drive correctly or is worn out.

Let me know and post the model number for the fridge too.

Thank you. I can pull the ice bin out, trip the "door closed" switch, press the dispenser on the front and see the auger rotating. The auger just doesn't touch the spinning part in the ice bin.

Model NO: Whirlpool ED2KVEXVL00

Here are pictures of the ice bin.

So you're saying the motorized driver (winged thing in the 1st picture) does spin?
The ice auger (screw-like rod running thru the bin) spins freely by hand?
The bin snaps into place in the fridge?

But still no ice is pushed out the door?

What I would do is tape a length of string to the auger shaft and call for ice. Pull out the bin & see if the auger wrapped the string around the shaft.
Maybe a piece of tape over the driven hub of the auger would tell you if the driver is reaching far enough into the hub to engage the 2 tabs.

Yes, that is what I'm saying.. Sorry, I confused the name of the auger and motorized driver. The motorized driver isn't making contact with the auger. The motorized driver turns, and the auger spins freely by hand, the driver just doesn't make contact with the auger.

I have to look it up when I get back in but you can see in the end shot of the bucket that one of the plastic tangs that hit the gear drive is worn/bent.
