Smell in washer
Bought a washer 4 months ago because my old one was a decade old and had a smell that wouldn't go away. Now, 4 months later, I'm getting the same smell in my washer. I've bleached it, used vinegar, wiped everything out. Is it possible there's a problem in the pipes? Could there be something that is connected to a bad shutoff valve at an upstairs toilet?

The front loaders have that problem, too. Don't know what kind of washer you have, but if you have an HE with pull out dispensers, then check at the back where the dispenser goes. I didn't realize it till I smelled a bad odor that some mold was growing in places I just didn't see outright. Now, every couple of months, I get a small brush, dip it in some bleach and scrub behind the dispensers and around the rim, then run it thru a "clean cycle". I also leave the lid open and the dispenser out.

When we bought a new HE washer it smelled. We were told that the problem could be that we were using too much detergent....HE washers don't need as much as the non-HE washers. Also, Tide has a product that will eliminate the odors....just run a cycle with the product and it will remove the odor. Could too much detergent be your problem?
Gotta love it....Tide causes the problem and then sells you the fix for it.

Front load washer.
In the old washer I used affresh and a whole box didn't help. I've run bleach and vinegar through it (not at the same time) based on things I found online. I leave the door open as much as possible.
I didn't see anything about mold behind the soap, but since I had a smell in my old washer I was curious about the problem with the water.

If you have ever torn down a washer you will find they are very drity inside. Does not take many laods to deposit dirt and mold inside them.
