GE Side-by-side Refrigerator in Garage
Hello - I have a GE Side by Side that's probably about 18 years old in my unheated garage. I understand why the freezer stops working when the temperature in the garage is less than or equal to the temperature in the fridge but sure would like to hack together a solution to keep it running correctly all winter. There is no "garage kit" for this fridge that I can find.
Anyone have any suggestions for what I can do?
It seems silly to put a small heat source inside the fridge but what about something like a thermostat outlet (like this - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000M4ZJ6Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_p3avAb62JH9Y6) that turns on at 30 degrees and powers heat tape (or similar) inside the fridge? How would I even neatly run the cord inside the fridge?
Thanks for your ideas!

You want to heat up the fridge so it cools when there is no need to cool?
In the winter it actually insulates from the cold, just leave it alone!

Nope. The freezer warms up to the temp of the refrigerator when it's too cold in the garage so I need something to make the compressor turn on.

Heat on the compressor is needed to keep the liquid refrigerant from entering and causing the compressor to stall. For heat pumps and outside A/C units that need to run in the cold they install a heated band around the compressor. Usually for a fridge.... a light bulb near the compressor will do the trick.
