Whirlpool Washer Tub Hitting off the Walls

Hello-

I had this problem about 2 months ago. Took the washer apart and saw that two of the suspension springs were MIA on the left side. Replaced them. The tub stopped hitting off the walls but it would make a new noise when the belt would be moving, more grindy then squeak.

Yesterday put a a very light load in and they still had some soap on them so I ran it through again. Today put a few towels in (yes there are spread out even) and the tub started hitting off the walls during sensing mode, the very light spin. Took towels out and still doing it. Took off the top to check springs, all looked good. Yes it is leveled. I then put it up on 2x4 removed the belt cover, all looked fine. Belt was on the edge of the large pulley looked like it should be up higher. When I would manually move the belt it seems fine except pulley looked to be unaligned/bent (sort of when you see a bent rim).... Belt slide right off with little effort. I tried to tighten the nut on the pulley but couldn't get it to go anywhere without pulled spinning.

Thoughts on what this could be?

The springs were missing. Did the sock monster eat them ?

Can you post the model number for that machine.
It should be down at the bottom of the lid area.

Yours is he right age for this problem. The center nut on pulley will loosen and fall off. This sound like your problem . grinding. Pulley out of align.. Take nut off and put locktie on it and reinstall. There may be a groove worn in plastic cover but don't worry about it. There is a repair kit for this but I have never used it and have fixed many.

Hold the pulley and unscrew it. Usually has fallen off. You just need to tighten it if pulley is loose.
