Refrigerator water filter keeps clogging?

I own a GE Refrigerator (GYE22HSKSS). About 2 months ago, the water dispenser started slowing down, so I replaced the water filter in the frig. After that, water flow was much faster than before.

Now it's slow again, only 6 weeks or so later. My understanding is these are supposed to last approx. 6 months?

I may not have the cleanest water ever, but it's not like it's smelly or brown coming out of the tap. 6 weeks seems unusually short shelf life to me. Is it possible there is some other problem with my refrigerator? What else would I check?

The life expectancy depends on the quality of the water as well as the amount of water filtered including ice making. Are you using GE filters or some generic replacement ?

Filters clog up with debri, so something is in the water, might consider a whole house filter to clean it up before getting to the frig, or just getting a bypass plug and removing the filter all together!
