Whirlpool refrigerator ice maker overflowing

I own a whirlpool gold model GD5SHAXKQ02 that was manufactured 01/02. A couple of days ago the icemaker began making too much ice. When the bin is full it keeps making more which spills all over the floor when the door is opened. We have tried turning it off with the switch but it doesn't stop. I know this appliance is old but it still cools and freezes like a dream. This is the only issue we have ever had with it. Any ideas? Thanks! 🙂

Welcome to the forums.

See..... you're just the opposite from most of the members..... theirs won't make ice.

You need to determine the type of "bin full" optics system. It uses a light beam across the bin to sense the level. They used two systems in your year. Look at the video link and see if this is the type of system you have.

You can also check on the following site for easy to follow optics servicing.
