Electrolux washer door reversal

We just got a new Electrolux front loader. The manual is sketchy, at best, for reversing the door. The Electrolux customer service people were nice enough to give me the names of local repair people who would happily show up for about $150 to $200 and they told me to look for a You Tube video. Also offered to read the manual to me......... None of these hints work. My model I believe is on the newer side: apparently a series 400. The model is a ......427...... The only videos I can find refer to other similar, but different models. I am hoping some one can answer this simple question. After removing the 4 screws that hold the door to the washer,(not hinge to door) how do you get the hinge out/off the washer. I think it might be a press fit but the manual says things like squeeze with your hand to release the pins on the hinge. Makes no sense until I suppose you have it apart. Can anyone help? The process looks pretty simple but I don't want to break something trying to remove the hinge from the machine. Thanks

Are you talking about a washer? I have only seen a washer door on a older Mattag washer that could be reversed. Post model # and will see what we can find out.

Electrolux Model

The model is EFLW427UIW0. I guess Electro refers to this as a 400 series. And yes indeed the door reverses. There are a few videos but none show how the hinge comes out of the washer. The manual, almost useless, says hold your hand here, push there, yada yada. Not much help after you take out the screws and the hinge is still tight in its mount. I suspect its an interference fit and you just pry it out, but on a new washer I am a bit hesitant. Electrolux Cust Serv is useless, although they did offer to read the manual to me, after I told them it lacked necessary detail. This is not the same as shown in the 4-5 year old videos

Retired before this washer came out. Read instructions for taking door off. It looks like you take the hand at handle and push door till hinge pops out. Don't forget to disconnect plastic part they talk about. If there are not locating tabs or pins mark the first hole on both door parts. Found it will help.

Exactly what the manual says, but when you get it in your hand it does not make any sense. There is some mention of pins on the hinge which I am guessing help to position it in its mount. Push where? How hard? Which direction? The hinge seems like it is fairly rugged and made of cast pot metal. I have a sense it might slide up such that the fitment is what holds actually supports it, the screws simply keep it snugly in position. When the screws are removed, the hinge barely moves and I gave it as much a push, a pull, a tug this way and that way, all to no avail. I am sure that if someone has taken one of these off, it is going to be an embarrassingly simple procedure. Since I got the one to be returned, I might do a bit more 'experimenting' on it. I will be sure to post the how when I figure it out. This has now become a quest! Not to mention with my hook ups etc, the washer location has the standard door side going the wrong way.

Should be able to get your hand back there and feel how hinge fits. Maybe a mirror will help you see back there. Tub is on springs so should move a little out of way.

That makes sense but to do that you need to remove the big rubber door seal. Maybe I will try that on the to-be-returned unit. With the seal out I think the hinge back side is right there. Might give that a shot

Boot easy to come off. There is a spring that holds it on.

Is that big spring the only thing that hold the seal on? No goop or anything under the seal? thanks

Just the spring nothing else. Takes a little work to get back on but when you learn it's easy.

Got the seal off. Really is pretty easy. At first I thought there might be some goop, but it was just the rubber sort of sticking to the metal. Like all such things, putting it back on took a minute or two to figure out the way to get at it then easy.

Anyway, the hinge has two pins as suggested in the manual. I didn't take it off but it looks like you could easily slip a prying tool (maybe a plastic windshield molding bar? needs to be sturdy and not scratch the paint) under the part of the hinge that is on the face of the washer and pop it off. I am thinking the pins, which are kind of small, are locators and are an interference fit on the washer.

Got it working

I struggled with this one also. After the hinge wouldn’t budge, and online videos were no use, I took off the locking mechanism on the right side of the door and then the trim strip.

this revealed the two empty slots where the two hinge hooks will soon sit in the frame. Once you see how they are situated you will be able to better visualize how the hinge has to be removed.

best description is that the hinge needs a sharp jerk directly upwards, while pushing slightly towards the outer wall of the washer. All of a sudden it will pop off. Just watch the wiring harness doesn’t get torn or pulled too hard.

should be ok. Good luck
