Noisy GE Dishwasher When Draining

GE model PDW7880J10SS makes a grinding noise when it is draining. I took apart the drain pump and found a soggy toothpick lodged in the pump. The toothpick was kind of punky so it's hard for me to believe it was causing the noise but one end was near the vanes of the impeller. I pulled the motor off the pump and it's quiet. I left the toothpick in for a test and ran the pump. There is some noise but it's not very loud and has a higher pitch. Removed the toothpick.

I then focused on the circulation pump. It was making some noise. I pulled the pump off the motor and all was quiet. I noticed dirty water has been leaking from the pump seal. I can buy a replacement seal kit for this pump. The only problem is that the noise correlates better with draining than washing.

What else can I do the isolate the problem?

Any item in pump will make a loud noise. Toothpick would most likely wear away.

It's pretty rare to have a grinding in the wash pump and the drain pump at the same time. If you do then there is something else ground up down there. I find glass in a lot of sumps. Glass won't grind.
