New Samsung Refrigerator Freezer too cold
So I bought this french door bottom freezer Samsung refrigerator and after powering it up I noticed for the first 48 hours the freezer was way too cold, about -20 deg F. The readout showed 0 deg F so I installed my own thermometer and yep -20.
After further checking I found that as long as the ice maker is running the freezer will continue to cool and thus make your ice cream hard as a rock. After turning off the ice maker the freezer compartment warmed to the setpoint of 0 deg. Ran it like that for 24 hours and no problem. Then turned back on the ice maker and down the temperature went. So if yours is running too cold this is probably why.
Another weird thing about this samsung refrigerator is the readouts show the setpoint and not the actual temperature. This is for both freezer and refrigerator compartment. Sort of piss poor design IMO. I had to install my own sensors with wifi so I know when the temperature is too high or too low and that works for me.
Also fingerprint resistant on ss is a joke.
Other than that its a nice unit and hopefully it lasts for awhile.

A model nu7mber may be useful.
Haver you contacted Samsung.
"Sort of piss poor design" also in my opinion.
Basically I will never buy a Samsung fridge/appliance.
I will stick to their TV's/electronics.

Looks like this is normal according to the operators manual.
I would contact Samsung to see if this can be shut off or modified.

Manden: yes this seems to be normal for the freezer temp to be lower when making ice, but damn we use a good bit of ice and it runs alot and freezer is always too cold.
Also the manual says that the display should show the actual temperature and not the setpoint. It only shows the actual until it reaches setpoint and then is stuck on the setpoint no matter what the temp is...hmmm how stupid.

I cannot find any tech info on this unit which is why I suggested contacting Samsung.
Sometimes there are options that can be set but only by a tech.

Yeah, I'm afraid it won't make ice if they change something so for now I will just turn off when the tray is full. Not sure from all the readings on here that I can trust they will send a qualified tech out. I'd love to get a hold of the technical manual for this fridge.
As far as the temperature reading goes, my own wifi sensor works great with notifications when out of range.
