Hi, there's a central vacuum that's roughed-in, all the piping and low voltage wire can be seen in the outlets. In the basement I see the low voltage wire but it doesn't go anywhere? picture below. Central vacuum is fully installed but when I connect the vacuum hose to the outlet and plug in the powerhead I get nothing - no suction and no power, silence. Is that low voltage wire supposed to be terminated like that?
If that is the pipe and wiring in the picture from the vacuum to the house then yes..... both need to be connected to the central vac unit for the vacuum to operate. There should be binding posts or some type of low voltage connection on the side of the vacuum.
The central vacuum is full installed in the garage. The above picture is an outlet I found on basement ceiling....I think I know what that is now - a roughed in outlet for the basement
So my question is how do I trouble shoot this? The vacuum canister is full installed in the garage and it's operational, the outlets don't work though, I installed the outlets in all the roughed in openings and connected the low voltage wires.
Does the vacuum work ?
Look for the low voltage connections coming from the wall plates.
Short these two wires. Does the vacuum start ?
If not there is a problem with the vacuum.
The low-voltage wires are what start the vacuum. If you connect them together the vac should start at both the picture wires or at an outlet on the main floor. Make sure the low voltage wires are connected to the vac in the garage.
Powerheads that have a motor and a beater bar typically runs off 120 volts and is connected to a standard receptacle. That or there is a 120 volt receptacle at the vac receptacle. If there is a jack at the vac receptacle check it with a meter to see if you have 120 volts there.

Ten month old LG electric range, model LSE4613ST. A few weeks ago my wife said the oven fan was making noise. Assuming she is the noisemaker I chose to ignore her. Well, yesterday when I turned on the oven, sure enough, the usually silent fan was loud. Stopped for a time, then started again randomly. With two months left under warranty I'm probably going to call for a tech to come by and take a look. Of course, the fan will most likely be silent while he's here but I'll deal with that. In the meantime, is there a do-it-yourself hack I might try?Read More
