Wash cycle not starting in Dishwasher

I can hear the water valve opening and water filling in for a min or so and then radio silence most of the times. The wash cycle wont start, we have waited upto one hour hoping the water is heating up but of no use. We have tried cancelling/draining and restarting and surprisingly it does work sometimes (1 out of 4 times) and will finish the whole 2hr cycle with no problem. Looks like if the first wash cycle is a success then the washer will go on for its normal 2 hrs and complete the wash. Any idea what could be the issue? Its a whirlpool.

GE Refrigerator Not Defrosting

I have a GE side by side refrigerator, model GSS20IEPD WW. It has been freezing up every 2-3 months and I have to pull the inner freezer panel and defrost it. It did this a number of years ago and it was the defrost heater. Worked fine after I replaced it. Fast forward several years and it has started freezing up again. I tested the heater with a multimeter and it tested fine. I tried replacing the defrost thermostat, but it continues to freeze up. While defrosting it today I pulled the defrost heater again and put my multimeter on it. I am getting 32ohm resistance. I know there should be some resistance due to it being a heating element, but I have no idea whether that number is good or bad. Any thoughts ot suggestions where to go from here would be greatly appreciated. I hate to replace an otherwise perfectly good refrigerator. Thanks, GaryRead More

Is it just me or do the dishwasher manufacturers intentionally design their racks to rust and fail after a few years and price the replacement parts so it's cheaper to scrap the whole unit? That was probably a rhetorical question without an answer. Anyway, 5 1/2 year old Maytag MDB4949SDH. Water has gotten past the rubberized coating on the racks in several places and a couple of the vertical rack posts have fallen off or are wobbly and not long for this world. Anybody have a source for replacements that make economical sense or do we just keep going until so many pieces fall off that it's unusable? :coffee:Read More
