Maytag washer spins violently

Model # LAT8404AAE so old, Maytag says: I do apologize but due to the age of the washer we no longer have literature available for this washer. 22yrs old or more. Every 3-6 months it walks the concrete irregular floor while spinning; not overloaded, or impalanced load. The legs do not self-adjust for leveling; I have to lean machine on front and trial and error until balanced on old uneven basement floor concrete. So old the legs are difficult to screw into the frame; one of them only halfway as if threads are stripped. I can replace the legs. The leg will come out of the frame completely. It's never had any maintenance. Please advise? thank you!

An out of balance issue could be caused by worn or broken base springs and the tub is shaking.
The springs can be seen in the "BASE" tab in the link below.

It's hard to tell from the diagram but springs are usually in groups of three.

Sounds to me that you also have a leg problem.
I am assuming that on the one that is stripped, it is the frame that is stripped.
So get another nut and adjust it to a good position and then lock it in place with a nut on both sides of the frame.
Then use the other 3 legs to get the unit level if they are all OK.
Be sure to lock them in place with the nuts from below.

TY Manden i'll bet you're right. All legs had been secured with the nut from below; so i couldn't understand why one leg would come out of the frame after only 1 or 2 violent spin cycles. Will try that.

I recall some of the legs would not screw all the way into the frame; as if the leg itself also was stripped close to the foot. That would suggest i might need to get new legs. Couldn't hurt.
