How much Electric Does a Crockpot use?
Trying to determine if crockpots are economical given their long cooktimes
Our el rates keep escalating, like everything else <g>
I contacted Rival customer service and did NOT receive a reply
I can only presume that the larger crocks use more than the smaller ones???

There are 2 ways you can accomplish this. The first one is to purchase an amp meter and see how much current is drawn when the crockpot is on.
The second (and easier) method is to buy a Kill a Watt meter and it will tell you how much current/power is being used.
On our crockpot, the low setting consumes about 0.9A, or around 108 watts.

You have to understand that manufacturer's specs will generally indicate what the maximum power usage will be during all aspects of testing. Generally any electric appliance draws more power on initial start-up than it does running steady.
As I mentioned, our crockpot draws about 108 watts on the low setting. Leaving that run for around 8-9 hours will generally use up around 1.5 kilowatt-hours.
