Question Above the range microwave without cabinet

Any ideas on how to attach an above the range microwave when there is no cabinet to attatch it to? I don't want to sit it on a shelf as there are lights on the bottom of the microwave that i hope to use. I do not have room or want to put up a cupboard just to attach the microwave. Any ideas?

What is above the area where you want to install the microwave?

Microwave vent hoods are intended to be mounted above the stove and attached to a cabinet. The vent unit and lighting is in the bottom of the unit.

Question

there is nothing above the range where i want to mount it. I was thinking of perhaps just putting a shelf above it to mount th front of it to. I realize it will have to be strong but since there is a wall mount in the back would the shelf work? Thanks again!

The shelf will carry a lot of the weight of the m/w and would have to be mounted as securely as a cabinet would be

Shelf support would have to be sufficient to prevent shelf failure and sagging.

We mounted ours without a cabinet, just followed the instructions for mounting to the wall, with the included wall bracket, and put a shelf above it, to mount the front top of the microwave to, and it holds and looks fine. We do have a wall cabinet on either side of this set up, but the microwave doesn't use the side cabinets for the actual mounting. Good luck!
