Maytag Microwave not heating

Help! Yesterday I cleaned our Maytag microwave (installed last year) and popped some popcorn without replacing the glass tray. It didn't pop very well, so I figured it must be because they tray wasn't there. Well, the last two times we've tried to use it, there is no heat. Have I totally fried our microwave? What could it be?

Thumbs up Maytag Microwave not heating

Just today, 01/21/08, our microwave stopped generating any heat and has a loud humming noise. Might be the same problem as you have. Ours is a Goldstar microwave. I did some checking with a troubleshooting guide which reads,
Sympton=" Microwave runs but has no heat and has a loud or unusual buzzing or humming noise "
They said the most likely cause is a diode. which can best tested and usually replaced without much trouble. Some diodes will split open of exhibit some burn marks etc. I will be testing the diodes later today. Hope this is helpful.

Be VERY, VERY careful when working on microwave ovens. Even when off and unplugged there are capacitors inside it that store a lethal voltage!! A guy in my neck of the woods was accidently killed while working on one.

I am dead serious about this.
