GE portable air conditioner

I have a portable a/c that started making noise and not cooling well. GE had no answers and it was out of warranty so I took all of the screws out on the back and took the back panel off. It turns out that the compressor fins had about a 1/4" of dust. I peeled off the dust in one sheet kind of like the dryer screen. I then vacuumed all of the fins and put the unit back together. It cools like new and is quiet again. Why doesn't GE have a filter on the compressor or have cleaning instructions like the air filter on top has. I hope this helps someone who has the same issue...

Simple. GE knows the fins won't clog before the warranty expires. They hope you toss it and buy another. You beat their system!
