Descaling a Keurig coffee machine
We've had our Keurig for a while and want to descale it. The machine came with a Keurig descaling bottle we used the first time. But replacing the bottle is expensive and I'm considering vinegar, instead. However, I've read that vinegar can harm aluminum and rubber parts.
I'd like to hear about descaling a Keurig with vinegar or other, inexpensive products.

I've used Dezcal and it works fairly well but is not as effective as vinegar. I have eventually had to resort to vinegar, but I have very hard water. If you don't have hard water, the Dezcal will probably be fine, and is less difficult to flush out than vinegar.

Ours gets a thorough white vinegar cleaning several times a year and it doesn't seem to hurt anything. We dump out the water reservoir and refill it with white vinegar. Then we run a few cycles until you have a strong vinegar smell in the coffee mug. Then we let it sit for 15-20 minutes and run another cycle. We keep running cycles every 15-20 minutes until the vinegar is gone then switch to water to clean out the vinegar from the machine.

Thanks for the quick responses. Carbide, I have a follow-up question. You imply vinegar is difficult to flush. Isn't it just a matter of running a dozen cups of hot water?

I find I have to wash out the reservoir and then run many cups through before the taste and odor of the white vinegar is completely gone. The Dezcal just seems to rinse out with fewer rinses. Maybe I'm just extra sensitive to the vinegar odor/taste....
