Hoover Steam Vac Brushes Wonít turn

I have a Hoover Steam Vac Deluxe Model F5680-900 and I just noticed that the brushes will not rotate. I removed the five brush assembly and can manually get the brushes to turn. However, when I turn on the unit with the brushes removed, I do not see the square hole adapter (that the brush assembly connects to) turn. It has two speeds and doesnít work in any position.
when I try to turn the square hole coupler using a screwdriver, it also will not turn.
Does anyone have any experience as to what the problem might be?

I'm trying to look up service info and don't see that model number listed.
Can you double check it ?

Did you mean......F5860-900 ?

If yes..... you would need to replace the....
Turbine And Gear Assembly - 5 brush. Replaced by 43191019
You can use this part number and find it at many retailers including amazon.

Yes you are right. I transposed two numbers. It is 5860-900. Thanks for your info. I found a video on YouTube that shows how to remove and disassemble this part. So iíll take it apart and see what might be wrong before I order a new one.

Good thinking. Many times it a rusted/frozen bearing. Let me know how you make out.

Yes the bearing was rusted and frozen. After cleaning everything up, I found the bearing was missing half of the rollers. It should be replaced but I doubt it can be purchased separately. I went ahead and greased everything and tried it and it worked. However, after reinstalling the top cover, it wonít work. Remove the top cover and it works. Havenít been able to figure out why the top cover is preventing it from turning. Will look at it again tomorrow.

If it's a ball bearing and half are gone.... the shaft won't stay centered.
The impeller may be hitting the cover. Not something you'd be able to see.
