GE Profile Microwave Trouble

Hello,

I have a 5 year old GE Profile Microwave model PVM9179DF1BB that has a problem. When you attempt to start the microwave, the light turns on, the timer begins to count down but doesn't make the usual humming sound, the turntable doesn't turn, and it doesn't heat the food.

From researching, I believe the problem is with one of the door switches.

According to https://www.repairclinic.com/Product...bb6005e515f9/y, I have three switches. Two are WB24X0815 and one is WB24X0817.

When I look for replacements on Amazon, there's a million choices. They all look similar but only the expensive ones have model numbers that match.

Are there generic switches that are less expensive that will work in my microwave? How do I know which ones will work and which ones won't? I plan on replacing all three switches with generic ones (if I can) so it doesn't really matter which one is bad.

If I bought these
https://www.amazon.com/LONYE-SZM-V16...xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ== and connected wiring the same way as the originals to the NC and NO terminals, will that work? How do I know the electrical connections and holes for retaining clips are the same size/line up?

Thanks for your help!

Superseded part numbers.

1) WB24X817 (monitor/safety switch) This is one normally closed switch.
It's either sold as NC or combo NC/NO. It is a different switch than the other two.

2) WB24X10029. There are two of these normally open function switches.

Sorry..... I only left half a reply.

The amazon linked switches should be fine for the two operational switches.
Don't change the monitor one unless it's bad.

You may not have a defective switch. You may have a problem/cracked latch assembly.
You should use a meter to check each one and see when it activates.
The monitor switch is working ok or you'd be blowing fuses.

Thanks for that info. I just tested all three switches with a meter and they all work normally. The bracket is in good condition also.

Now I'm perplexed. What would cause the light and timer to work but prevent the turntable and magnetron from operating?

Can't find any service info on that unit.

Did you check the switches with the door closed ?
You need to make sure the two operation switches close when the door is closed.

I did test with the switches open and closed by manually pressing the button but not with the door. I did notice that the connector that goes to the top switch is a bit burned and it was very hard to remove the switch from the connector. Seems like there was an arc and I have no idea what the other side of the wire connects to or the condition of that component.

I think I'm just gonna replace this microwave. Funny thing is that it's just 2 months past its 5 year extended warranty. Ha! Ugh.

Thank you for the help!

There's a good chance the two switches are not in the closed position when the door is closed.
That has been a problem with GE microwaves. The plastic latches crack or distort.
