Bosch 800 series microwave oven
Hi all,
The hinge on my Bosch 800 series microwave oven broke, so there is no tension holding the door when I open it. Need to gently lower the door or else it flops down. I saw some DIYs / videos on how to repair, but a bit more research, some people online recommend not to work on your own microwave incase you break the seal and there is a radiation leak. I've never heard of this before and now I'm on the fence to whether do this DIY or call some repair place to send a tech to fix it. Any ideas? It seems simple enough but it does require to take the rubber seal off the door.
appreciate all answers! thanks

Welcome to the forums.
Microwave leakage could cause localized heat damage. It's not like radiation that is extremely hazardous and penetrates skin and bones. As long as the gasket integrity is maintained there shouldn't be a problem. It would have to be a visible gap to cause issues.
Removing and reinstalling the door seal shouldn't be a problem as long as it's in the same location, not damaged and is fully intact.
That being said.... I can only recommend factory service or factory service parts but a DIY repair could be better than original.

Thanks! I will check the hinge and replace the broken one. Would you recommend replacing the other one at the same time? or is just replacing the broken one is fine? Might sound like a stupid question, but I have no idea..
