Question

I am trying to get some idea as to where a builder would have installed the doorbell transformer. The house is approx 15 years old and I am replacing the doorbell and not sure where to look for the transformer. Any ideas.

Thanks to all that replyed. I found it located near the furnace in the basement. I would never had thought of that spot.

Cool

Attic? Basement? Crawlspace? Closet? Should be where it can be reached and where it can be plugged into or wired to power source. I don't think that it is supposed to built into a wall. Look for the small bell wires, and track it down. Good Luck!

hello doug,
another common place for the transformer is in the panel, or verry close.

Talking

Believe it or not, I've even found one tucked in to the bottom of a breaker panel (it got relocated, pronto...).

In my area we install the chime transformer to the SSU (or switch) box located at the furnace. This provides a handy location for mounting, power, and for running the low-voltage wires, since there will be heating low-voltage wires run in this area, anyway.
