my problem is for 2 years i have had some half dead outlets(top worked bottom did not etc) now some outlets have decided to change their mind and let the other half work and the half that did is not working,also it seems that around 5 outlets and a few lights dont work now all the outlets test open hot with a plug in tester,why would the oulets move? any help is great thanx

this is another weard 1. john may be right that it is the power companys, but then again if u were loseing 1 phase nothing 220 would work. an open hot is an open circuit in the hot wire, easest way to explain. it almost sounds like these outlets r wired threw a 4 way switch, with the dead outlets becoming live and vice versa, but with out seeing this and doing some traceing im shooting in the dark. i recomend u contace an electrician in your area and have them have a look at it.

thanx guys I replaced 2 outlets started at the first one the one that moved and what i thought was one in circuit on the other side of the wall differant room,and that seemed to fix the problem all lights and plugs worked upstairs again,and i now have power in a whole plug,next is to fix the other 6 plugs in this place that are open hot just replace them ? thanx for the help
