New construction - Telephone wiring with CAT5
Can anyone tell me exactly how to go about connecting telephone jacks with CAT5 wire. Also, how do I connect at the service box?
I used CAT5 in an addition project I am doing because the rest of the house has it, however, when I went to make the connection I couldn't make heads or tails of the wire colors.
There are 4 pairs of twisted wires (obviously) ...
Green/green stripe
orange/orange stripe
red/red stripe
blue/blue stripe
What wires do I connect to on the back of the jack for a single line.
As alwasy the jacks have 4 posts ...
Black
Red
Yellow
green
I have run a single line for each phone jack from the service panel to the two individual jacks (which I want on the same line).
In addition to the color connections at the jacks I'd like to know what colors I match out at the service panel and how do I connect the two independent lines so they end up on the same connection?
thanks

I believe you should use phone jacks made for Cat5 wiring (the ones that have the push in type connector instead of the standard screw connector.
But going back to the color, it makes no difference which pair you use. Just make sure you use the same pair on both ends of the cable. The phone jack itself uses the red and green for the first line, and yellow and black for the second line. The red and green are the inner connectors on a jack, and the yellow and black are the outer connectors.

Check the web using a search engine.
Here's a sample site I found.

Correct, functionally, it doesn't matter what pairs you use. However, for the sake of those coming in behind you, try this site. There is a standard.
