I don't think you will get much help in the "electrical" forum here. Perhaps the "small engines" forum?

Maureen,,, I think you might be in the wrong forum,,, but while you are here,, look for a clogged crankcase vent. Probably is a tube that goes to the aircleaner from the crankcase.

maureen, Like sperry27 was saying sounds like your crankcase vent is clogged from the oil breaking down due to wrong type oil your using. Your oil fill tube cap should have it stamp right on the cap what type and or grade of oil to use. Seeing how that is a 2 cycle engine castro make a very good oil.

sperry27, Wasn't sure if that engine had reed valves (two stroke) or steel valves (four stroke). A broken piston ring will also give you the same problem.

yes, broken ring is a possibility as well as a hole in the piston. She should put her thumb over the spack plug hole and see if there is compression when the cord is pulled. Watch out for the coil wire. ha,,, I had a company owner standing over my shoulder being a pain when I was reparing a generator one time,, so I tell him to hold this wire while I give it a crank. I couldnt believe he did it,, Pow,, went back to his office and didnt see him for a couple days.
